Willowdale Hall of Fame item: Dominion Grocery Store. Located conveniently smack dab in the middle of the parking lot in Northtown Plaza on Yonge St. just south of Finch Ave., Dominion was the go-to grocery store for countless families in the Willowdale and surrounding areas east & west of Yonge Street. Who remembers the jingle: “Why do more Canadians shop at Dominion than at any other store? …Why, it’s mainly because of the meat.” This iconic (VERY CANADIAN) vintage Dominion branding was tossed, and everything changed over to “METRO” in 2008, it certainly seems longer than that?
